Can Claude keep track of time?

Not in a chat. Claude does not run a clock between your messages, so it cannot tell you how long you worked unless you give it the times. Claude Code can log times to a file, but that is a script you maintain. Claude.ai memory can recall context, but it is not a timesheet you can total. Connect the Time Tracker server (free token) and Claude starts and stops a timer, logs past work as entries, sets an hourly rate per project and totals hours and money for the last 7 days on the free tier, or any period on Pro.

What Claude does alone, and what needs the server

Claude on its own

  • Adds up hours you type in.
  • Plans your week in time blocks.

With the Time Tracker server

  • A real timer that keeps running between messages.
  • Saved entries with rate and amount.
  • A weekly total per project, ready for an invoice.

Questions

Can Claude keep track of time?
Not in a chat. Claude does not run a clock between your messages, so it cannot tell you how long you worked unless you give it the times. Claude Code can log times to a file, but that is a script you maintain. Claude.ai memory can recall context, but it is not a timesheet you can total. Does the timer run if I close the chat?
Yes. timer_start saves the start time on the server, and timer_stop works it out later, in a new chat or another app.
Can it turn hours into an invoice?
invoice_summary turns billable hours into invoice lines, and entry_mark_billed stamps them so they are not billed twice.
Is the server free?
The hosted Time Tracker server has a free tier. A free token lasts 30 days and allows 600 calls an hour, with no account. Some features are Pro, and the server page lists what is free and what is not.
