Can Claude check the current gold price?

Not from memory. Claude's training data ends at a cutoff date, and the gold price changes every minute, so any number it recalls is old. With web search on, Claude.ai can find a price quoted on a news or dealer page, but that quote may be delayed and Claude still has to do the karat and gram math itself. With a 15% dealer spread, a buyer would offer about 496.80 USD. Melt value is not a shop price: retail jewellery sells above melt (making charges, design, brand, tax) and buyers pay below it (refining cost and margin). Ask several buyers for their percentage of melt.

Is the gold price from the server real time?
It reads the spot price from gold-api.com when the tool runs and returns the timestamp with the answer. Currency conversion uses central-bank rates from Frankfurter.
Is melt value what a shop will pay?
No. Buyers pay below melt to cover refining and margin, and shops sell jewellery above it. The tool lets you set the dealer spread so you can compare offers.
Is the server free?
