Can Claude edit images?

Not with AI retouching. Claude can look at an image and describe it, but it does not repaint or retouch photos. With code execution on (the default on Free, Pro and Max) Claude can resize or crop an uploaded image in its sandbox, and Claude Code can run an image script on your disk. What Claude does alone, and what needs the server

Claude on its own

  • Describes what is in an image and suggests a crop.
  • Resizes or crops an uploaded image in its sandbox when code execution is on.
  • Tells you which size and format a site needs.

With the Image server

  • A resized, cropped or compressed copy of the real file.
  • Conversion between PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP and TIFF.
  • The same resize for a whole batch of photos.
