Can Claude do month-end close?

Partly. Claude can walk you through a close checklist, and with code execution on (the default on Free, Pro and Max) it can total an uploaded ledger and check that debits equal credits. Claude Code routines can run a close script on a schedule. None of that keeps the records the close is checked against. Connect the Cash Book server (free token) and Claude builds the month's ledger from your saved invoices, expenses and deposits and proves the trial balance to the cent. Pro adds month_close, which lists what is unposted or unbalanced, stores the close as a snapshot and names any later drift against it.

What Claude does alone, and what needs the server

Claude on its own

  • Explains each step of a month-end close.
  • Totals an uploaded ledger in its sandbox when code execution is on.

With the Cash Book server

  • A trial balance from the same saved records every month.
  • The open receivables lines behind the balance.
  • A stored close that later changes are checked against (Pro).

A real call to the live server

We sent this to the hosted server on 2026-11-05. The answer below is the server's own text, not a mock-up. Live values will differ when you ask.

You ask

Run the trial balance for November.

Tool call

trial_balance {"from":"2026-11-01","to":"2026-11-30","currency":"USD"}

Server answer

{"balanced": true, "debits": "USD 3708.29", "credits": "USD 3708.29", "imbalance": "USD 0.00", "accounts": [{"account": "cash", "type": "asset", "debits": "USD 1200.00", "credits": "USD 108.29", "balance": "USD 1091.71"}, {"account": "expenses:software", "type": "expense", "debits": "USD 59.99", "credits": "USD 0.00", "balance": "USD 59.99"}, {"account": "expenses:travel", "type": "expense", "debits": "USD 48.30", "credits": "USD 0.00", "balance": "USD 48.30"}, {"account": "receivables", "type": "asset", "debits": "USD 2400.00", "credits": "USD 1200.00", "balance": "USD 1200.00"}, {"account": "revenue", "type": "income", "debits": "USD 0.00", "credits": "USD 2400.00", "balance": "USD -2400.00"}]}

The November ledger was built from the saved invoice and expenses first. The server answers in JSON. This is a shortened copy, and each account is shown with five of its fields, unchanged.

You ask

What is still open in receivables?

Tool call

ledger_lines {"from":"2026-11-01","to":"2026-11-30","currency":"USD","account":"receivables"}

Server answer

{"debits": "USD 2400.00", "credits": "USD 1200.00", "lines": [{"date": "2026-11-05", "account": "receivables", "debit": "USD 2400.00", "credit": "USD 0.00", "description": "Invoice INV-2026-0001 to Harbor Dental"}, {"date": "2026-11-05", "account": "receivables", "debit": "USD 0.00", "credit": "USD 1200.00", "description": "INV-2026-0001 paid"}], "note": "A filtered set of lines is one side of entries whose other side was filtered out, so these totals are not expected to be equal. Only the whole period balances."}

Each line is shown with five of its fields, unchanged. USD 1,200.00 of the USD 2,400.00 invoice is still owed.

Can it close the month on the free tier?
No. month_close is Pro. On the free tier trial_balance and ledger_lines are free with no monthly cap, and ledger_build covers 3 periods a month, so you can check the numbers before you buy.
What does Pro cost and add?
Pro is $19 once for the Cash Book server, or $39 once for all 49 servers. It adds month_close, the account by account ledger report and the CSV export of ledger lines.
Is the server free?
The hosted Cash Book server has a free tier. A free token lasts 30 days and allows 600 calls an hour, with no account. Some features are Pro, and the server page lists what is free and what is not.
