Can Claude track prices?

Not on its own. With web search on, Claude can find a price once, but it keeps no dated price history to compare later. Connect the Price Tracker server (free token) and Claude reads a product page, adds it to a watch list with a target price, stores every check and tells you what dropped. Checks run when you ask. Nothing polls in the background.

What Claude does alone, and what needs the server

Claude on its own

  • Finds a current price with web search.
  • Compares two products you name.

With the Price Tracker server

  • A stored price history for each item.
  • A target price and a list of items that reached it.
  • One refresh of the whole list in a single call (Pro).

A real call to the live server

We sent this to the hosted server on 2026-11-05. The answer below is the server's own text, not a mock-up. Live values will differ when you ask.

You ask

What does this book cost right now?

Tool call

price_check {"url":"https://books.toscrape.com/catalogue/a-light-in-the-attic_1000/index.html"}

Server answer

Title: A Light in the Attic | Books to Scrape - Sandbox Price: 51.77 GBP Confidence: low (source regex-fallback) URL: https://books.toscrape.com/catalogue/a-light-in-the-attic_1000/index.html Checked: 2026-11-05T12:18:47.908Z Change: no earlier observation stored for this URL. Use watch_add to start tracking it.

books.toscrape.com is a public practice shop. Low confidence means the price came from a text match, not from structured data on the page.

You ask

Watch it and tell me when it is 45 or less.

Tool call

watch_add {"url":"https://books.toscrape.com/catalogue/a-light-in-the-attic_1000/index.html","label":"A Light in the Attic","target_price":45}

Server answer

Watching A Light in the Attic as 38b93dad. Price now: 51.77 GBP Confidence: low (source regex-fallback) Target: 45.00 GBP Checks run when you ask: there is no background job and nothing polls this page. Say "refresh my watches" (watch_refresh) at the start of a session, then alerts_pending lists the drops and target hits. Kept for your token on this endpoint, not on a disk you can open: watch_list shows it again, and the data is held for 30 days and refreshed for another 30 on every write.

Questions

Can Claude track prices?
Not on its own. With web search on, Claude can find a price once, but it keeps no dated price history to compare later. Connect the Price Tracker server (free token) and Claude reads a product page, adds it to a watch list with a target price, stores every check and tells you what dropped. Checks run when you ask. Does it check prices every day?
No. It checks when you ask. Say refresh my watches at the start of a session, then alerts_pending lists the drops.
What if a shop blocks it?
price_add_manual stores a price you read yourself, so the history stays complete.
Is the server free?
The hosted Price Tracker server has a free tier. A free token lasts 30 days and allows 600 calls an hour, with no account. Some features are Pro, and the server page lists what is free and what is not.
