What it knows that a model doesn't

A model answers from training data. This server reads the source when you ask.

  • Today's UV Index for a US ZIP code or city and state, with the EPA category and sun protection advice.
  • The hourly forecast in local time, the peak hour and the hours when UV is 3 or higher.
  • Whether a UV Alert is in effect. The forecast is read at call time, so it is never last week's number.

explain_uv_index Explain a UV index value. What a UV Index number means on the EPA scale (0 to 2 Low, 3 to 7 Moderate to High, 8 and above Very High to Extreme) and the EPA sun protection advice for it, plus the NWS UV Alert rule.

Is the UV index today MCP server free?
Yes. The hosted URL is free and needs no token, key or account. The source is open on GitHub.
Why not just ask the model?
A model answers from its training data. That data stops at a cutoff date, and long sums can drift. This server reads its data or rules each time you ask, so the answer is current and exact.
Where does the data come from?
EPA Envirofacts UV Index service (data.epa.gov), the daily UV Index forecast from the National Weather Service; EPA UV Index scale.
Which apps can use it?
