Can Claude calculate vegetable yield after peeling and trimming?

Connector URL

https://vegetable-yield-percentage-mcp.lipmichal.workers.dev/mcp

Paste it as a custom connector in Claude, or add it to Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code. Setup for each is below.

What it knows that a model doesn't

A model answers from training data. This server reads the source when you ask.

  • The USDA edible yield percent for 305 raw vegetables and fruits, and what the refuse is.
  • Edible weight from a purchased weight, and how much to buy for a recipe amount.
  • USDA household weights such as 1 medium onion or 1 cup chopped.

Sources USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 28 (refuse percent and household weights); NIST SP 811 for pounds and ounces.

ToolWhat it does
get_vegetable_yield Get vegetable yield percentage. USDA edible yield percent for a raw vegetable or fruit (the share left after removing peel, seeds, core, stems and trimmings), the refuse percent and what the refuse is, plus USDA household weights (1 medium, 1 cup chopped, 1 clove) and the as-purchased weight of one whole item.
calculate_edible_weight Calculate edible weight. Edible weight and trim waste from a purchased (as purchased, untrimmed) weight of a raw vegetable or fruit, using the USDA edible yield percent.
calculate_amount_to_buy Calculate how much produce to buy. How much of a raw vegetable or fruit to buy for a recipe amount. Give the prepared amount in g, kg, oz or lb, or as a USDA household measure such as "cup chopped", "cup sliced", "medium" or "clove".
list_vegetable_yields List vegetable and fruit yields. List raw vegetables and fruits with their USDA edible yield percent, filtered to fruit or vegetable and sorted by name, lowest yield or highest yield.

Questions

Is the vegetable yield percentage MCP server free?
Yes. The hosted URL is free and needs no token, key or account. The source is open on GitHub.
Why not just ask the model?
A model answers from its training data. That data stops at a cutoff date, and long sums can drift. This server reads its data or rules each time you ask, so the answer is current and exact.
Where does the data come from?
USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 28 (refuse percent and household weights); NIST SP 811 for pounds and ounces.
Which apps can use it?
Any MCP client that accepts a remote server URL: Claude.ai and Claude Desktop custom connectors, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and others. You can also run it locally with npx.
