What it knows that a model doesn't

A model answers from training data. This server reads the source when you ask.

  • The census tract number and 11-digit GEOID for a US street address or a latitude and longitude.
  • Block group, block, county FIPS, place, and congressional and state legislative districts.
  • Today's geographies by default, or the 2020 Census or a matching ACS release.

Sources US Census Bureau Geocoder (geocoding.geo.census.gov), geographies lookup by address and by coordinates.

get_census_tract_for_coordinates Get census tract for coordinates. Census tract, block group, block, county, place and congressional and state legislative districts for a latitude and longitude, from the US Census Bureau Geocoder.
explain_census_geoid Explain a census GEOID. Split a census GEOID (2 digits state, 5 county, 11 tract, 12 block group, 15 block, or with a 1400000US style prefix) into state and county FIPS, tract code, the tract number as Census displays it (012405 is 124.05), block group and block.

Is the address to census tract MCP server free?
Yes. The hosted URL is free and needs no token, key or account. The source is open on GitHub.
Why not just ask the model?
A model answers from its training data. That data stops at a cutoff date, and long sums can drift. This server reads its data or rules each time you ask, so the answer is current and exact.
Where does the data come from?
US Census Bureau Geocoder (geocoding.geo.census.gov), geographies lookup by address and by coordinates.
Which apps can use it?
