Cups to grams MCP server

Cups to grams by ingredient, from measured weights, not guessed densities.

Free. No key, no sign-in, no paid tier. 4 tools.

Connector URL

https://cups-to-grams-mcp.lipmichal.workers.dev/mcp

Paste it as a custom connector in Claude, or add it to Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code. Setup for each is below.

What it knows that a model does not

A model answers from training data. This server reads the source when you ask.

  • Measured grams per cup for 271 ingredients, from USDA FoodData Central and the King Arthur chart.
  • Which cup a recipe uses: US, metric, imperial, US legal or Japanese.
  • Oven temperatures in F, C and gas mark, with the fan oven adjustment.

Sources USDA FoodData Central, King Arthur Baking weight chart, NIST conversion factors.

Tools (4)

Read from the live server with tools/list on 2026-11-02.

ToolWhat it does
convert_ingredient Convert cups to grams for a named ingredient. Converts a kitchen amount between volume and weight for a specific ingredient, using measured grams-per-cup values (USDA FoodData Central portion weights with FDC ids, and the King Arthur Baking ingredient weight chart) instead of guessed densities. 271 ingredients.
search_ingredients Search the measured ingredient density table. Fuzzy search over the ingredient table (flours, sugars, fats, dairy, liquids, nuts, grains, fruit, produce). Returns canonical names, grams per US cup and per tablespoon, and the source (USDA FDC id or King Arthur Baking chart).
scale_recipe Scale a recipe and convert it to grams. Scales a list of recipe ingredient lines ("1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour", "2 tbsp honey", "3 eggs") by a factor or from original to target servings.
convert_oven_temperature Convert oven temperature between F, C and gas mark. Converts an oven setting between Fahrenheit, Celsius and UK gas mark (1/4 to 10, from the standard recipe table) and optionally adjusts for a fan (convection) oven by 20 C, the manufacturer guidance.

Questions

Is the cups to grams MCP server free?
Yes. The hosted URL is free and needs no token, key or account. The source is open on GitHub.
Why not just ask the model?
A model answers from its training data. That data stops at a cutoff date, and long sums can drift. This server reads its data or rules each time you ask, so the answer is current and exact.
Where does the data come from?
USDA FoodData Central, King Arthur Baking weight chart, NIST conversion factors.
Which apps can use it?
Any MCP client that accepts a remote server URL: Claude.ai and Claude Desktop custom connectors, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and others. You can also run it locally with npx.
