Create a real invoice in Claude

You want an invoice you can send today, not a table to copy into Word. Claude on its own stops short of that. The Invoice server gives you a numbered A4 PDF that keeps counting from the last one.

Claude can write invoice text and do the math, but it keeps no numbering or payment history between chats. Connect the Invoice server and Claude stores your clients, numbers each invoice in sequence, and writes an A4 PDF with VAT lines. The free tier works with no key. Pro removes the limits.

Claude can lay out an invoice as text or a table and do the VAT math correctly. In Claude.ai with file creation turned on, it can also make a one-off PDF in its sandbox. It can't remember your last invoice number between chats, so numbering repeats or skips, and it keeps no list of what is paid or overdue.

With Invoice

The Invoice server stores your business profile and clients, gives each invoice the next number that's never reused, and writes an A4 PDF with the VAT breakdown. It also records payments and lists what's overdue. With the local install the PDF is saved in a folder on your machine. On the hosted URL you get a short-lived download link.

Common mistakes with this job

  • Reusing or skipping invoice numbers when invoices are made in separate chats or files. Tax offices expect one unbroken sequence.
  • Leaving out your VAT id or the client's address, which makes the invoice invalid for VAT in many countries.
  • Sending the invoice and never recording the payment, so you can't tell later what's overdue.

Can I do this in Claude?

Does it email the invoice?
No. It makes the PDF and the record. Sending it is up to you.
Does it convert currencies?
Not on its own. An invoice has one currency. invoice_from_hours can bill in another currency at a rate you supply.
Can a number be reused?
No. The counter is written before the invoice is stored, so a crash skips a number instead of reusing one.
