Convert currency on ECB rates

Accountants and freelancers who invoice abroad need the official rate for a specific date, not a rate a chatbot remembers. If you must convert at the ECB reference rate and show where the number came from, start here.

Without a tool, Claude may quote an old rate from memory. The Currency server uses European Central Bank daily reference rates: it converts on any date, converts into many currencies at once and gives rate history, with the rate date stated.

Without a tool, and with the tool

Without a tool

Claude has no live data in a plain chat. It may give a rate from its training data that's months old, and it can't prove which date the rate is from.

With Currency

Currency uses European Central Bank daily reference rates: it converts on a given date, converts one amount into many currencies, gives the rate for a pair on a date, and returns rate history for a window.

Common mistakes with this job

  • Using today's rate for an invoice dated last month.
  • Using a bank's buy or sell rate where the tax office expects a reference rate.
  • Forgetting that ECB rates are published only on working days.
