Resize and compress images in chat

Your photos are too big for the website or the email. Shop owners and bloggers can resize, compress and convert a batch of images just by asking in chat.

In most chat apps Claude can see an image but not write a new one. The Image server resizes, compresses, converts, crops, watermarks and strips metadata, in batches, and writes each result as a new file. Run it locally to keep photos on your machine.

Without a tool, and with the tool

Without a tool

Claude can look at an image and describe it. In Claude.ai with code execution it can sometimes resize a file in its sandbox. In Claude Desktop or Cursor without a tool, it can't write a new image file.

With Image

The Image server resizes single images or batches, compresses and reports bytes before and after, converts formats, crops, makes thumbnails, adds a text watermark and strips metadata. Each result is a new file.

Common mistakes with this job

  • Uploading full-size phone photos (4-8 MB) to a web shop, which slows every page.
  • Compressing a JPEG again and again, which adds visible artifacts.
  • Posting photos with GPS location still in the metadata.
